Rebecca Schoneveld

Rebecca Schoneveld was born near San Francisco as the second youngest child in a close-knit and creative family of seven. Throughout her life, Rebecca found her peaceful place away from noisy brothers and an artistic outlet through learning to sew. Most of her spare hours were spent piecing together gowns from vintage patterns, reconstructing thrift store finds, and helping to create costumes for her ballet company.

In 2003, Rebecca graduated with a degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and promptly started working in the NY garment industry. After nearly 10 years in the contemporary fashion world, she felt an inescapable pull to get back to the root of her love of dressmaking. With nothing more than that stubbornly undying love of design, a lot of elbow grease, and a small pocketful of earnings from an Etsy store, Rebecca officially launched her eponymous bridal line and her first storefront shop in April of 2013.

Rebecca is a California native and now lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her two sweet little sons and two not-always-so-sweet grey kitties.

About the Collection

The Rebecca Schoneveld Bride is a woman who loves to move freely, laugh easily, and love honestly. Rebecca's designs are fueled by a sense of restrained romanticism and elegant minimalism, as well as by her modern Brooklyn clientele.

Each gown is designed with timeless, intelligent details that deftly enhance a woman’s natural beauty, with a conscious effort made to not overwhelm the wearer with too much “fashion” but rather to allow her personality to fully shine.

Each gown is carefully crafted in Rebecca’s in-house atelier in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Because each gown is made to a bride’s individual order, we offer a plethora of customizable options such as mixing tops and bottoms, changing color, and editing sleeves and necklines. We strongly believe the process to find a perfect gown should be fun, deeply positive, and completely memorable.

Local NY area brides can meet Rebecca and try on the full collection at our flagship boutique, Schone Bride, located on 3rd Avenue, in Gowanus Brooklyn.

About the Studio

We believe that real beauty is much deeper than skin level. In the same way, a truly beautiful item of clothing must be so not just in its design but in it's origins as well. It's easy to forget in today's world of fast fashion that ALL clothes are indeed "hand made." There is a story behind every item we choose to buy.

This is one big reason we produce hyper-locally. All of our gowns are created in our Brooklyn studio by a team of craftspeople who are treated like family. We take great pride in the positive effects our growing business has on the lives of our staff and our wider community. Genuine joy goes into creating our pieces, each of which we design to be ultra personalized, timeless and re-usable.

Brides who come to our flagship boutique, Schone Bride, get the double pleasure of shopping in a cheerful, pressure-free environment and of catching a glimpse of our on-site design/production studio, where the "magic happens" as we like to say. What began as a one-woman, livingroom and Etsy-based operation has grown over these few short years into a whole family of seamstresses, pattern makers, salespeople, and an excellent support team.

We understand that a wedding gown purchase is both sentimental and substantial. Every bride we get the honor of dressing is like an extension of our family!
